Azure Policies

Now we are going to talk about the about policies.

Policies are used to enforce your company standards and service level agreements.

You can use the Azure Policy Service to define policies that will enforce your company standards and service level agreements across all of your resources or specific resources.

In this demonstration I am going to assign a policy to enforce the Resource group location setting to Southeast Asia.

In this tenant already there are seven resource groups available. You can see, out of seven, three resource groups were not within the Southeast Asia region.

Now I am going to assign the policy for detect this,

Let’s go into the assignments and select assign policy.

With that section we can see more than 600 build in policy definitions available for apply.

Now I search for the policy definitions that related to allowed locations.

And now I am going to apply Allowed locations for resource groups build in policy definition.

Using this I can enforce geo compliance requirements.in here I select only Southeast Asia region only for creation the Resource groups.

And finally I create it.

With this policy you can restrict to create resource group to certain geographic locations, in terms of regions criteria.

Resource group – A container that holds related resources for an Azure solution. The resource group includes those resources that you want to manage as a group.

You decide which resources belong in a resource group based on what makes the most sense for your organization.

Resource – A manageable item that is available through Azure. Virtual machines, storage accounts, web apps, databases, and virtual networks are examples of resources.

Now let’s switch over to the Azure portal and we can examine the Azure Policy Service.

Now you can see the policy compliance status of this policy.

This state that 4 Resource groups are comply with the policy. That highlighted with the Green color.

Also this shows us, 3 Resource groups not comply with the company policy. That highlighted with the Red color.

You can get more information about the non-compliance states by clicking the details.
